We Encourage the Provision of Accessibility

For people with restricted mobility, taxis and private hire cars provide a flexible journey from door to door. Merseytravel encourages the provision of accessible taxis across Merseyside. Accessible taxis have ramps, low steps, colour contrasting seats and grab handles, and two way communication with the driver. These taxis are licensed by local District Councils and are subject to strict rules, many of which refer to adapted access features.

Merseytravel are committed to making travel around Merseyside accessible to everybody. Every month more and more Easy Access buses are coming into use which are specially designed for people who are less mobile like Parents with buggies and small children, Shoppers with heavy loads to carry, Wheelchair users and Older people who are less agile. These buses have wide doors, low entrances (and some buses kneel and have extending ramp), flat floors and plenty of easy grip handrails.

Merseylink

'Merseylink' is another service that Merseytravel has to offer. This is a Dial-a-Ride bus service for people with mobility impairments who cannot use conventional public transport. The vehicles used by Merseylink are designed for easy access and passenger comfort.

As a part of its commitment to encourage greater use of the bus network, Merseytravel has invested heavily in bus stations. For people who have mobility difficulties, bus stations are an excellent place to start or finish a journey.
